The Monday before Ascension Day is the "highest" holiday for the tradition-conscious men of Liestal. Before eight o'clock, the men - citizens, Tschamauchen and guests - meet in Rathausstrasse with hats, sticks and "Maien". The Törli bell, which is only rung on Banntag, calls the men to gather and they form one of the four marching bands. At 8 a.m. on the dot, the four parades march out to Stedtli with banners, parade music (pipers and tambourines) and Banntags-Schützen (Banntag marksmen) to walk the traditional routes along the municipal boundaries (Bann). During the extended "Znünihalt" (snack stop), everyone waits eagerly for the speech of the Rottenchef and the roll call with the "Trommeleinzug". Towards the evening, the troupes march back to the town centre and hand in their banner at the town hall. Cultivating camaraderie and refreshing old acquaintances accompanies the entire day. The end of the hard day is marked by the "Pintenkehr" through Liestal's inns.
In 2020, Schlebach AG was allowed to build new Banntag drums for the drummers of the 4th Rotte. The Rotten badge was hand-painted on the drums by a Rotten member.
