The Olympia carnival society was founded in 1908 and is one of the few male cliques in Basel. It is also the oldest and only men's society. The Alte Garde is also the oldest in Basel and was founded in 1925, the Junge Garde in 1934. Soon after it was founded in 1908, the Olympia provided all the pipers and drummers for the Safranzunft guild games. Since 1938, the Olympia has also accompanied the Vogel Gryff game during the evening procession. You can always recognise an Olympian by the Vogel Gryff and the typical Olymper-Büggse during the stroll: Dark suit, Olymper hat and Olymper pin. And the drummers with their unmistakable bandolier and golden drums.
in 2021, Schlebach AG was allowed to overhaul 16 young drums of the Olympia Boys' Guard and replace the existing brass frames with aluminium ones. This was followed in 2023 by the delivery of 10 new half- and three-quarter snare drums.
